What to expect with facials

At KW Beauty, every facial is designed with one goal in mind: visible, meaningful results. We use only Health Canada-approved, medical-grade skincare and devices to deliver clinical outcomes, all within a calm, relaxing environment.

Your treatment begins with a personalized skin consultation with one of our knowledgeable medical aestheticians to discuss your concerns, skin type, and goals. From there, we perform a deep cleanse to remove impurities, followed by gentle exfoliation and a targeted mask selected specifically for your skin’s needs. A relaxing facial massage boosts circulation and promotes product absorption, and we finish with a hydrating moisturizer and broad-spectrum SPF to protect your glow.

You’ll leave feeling refreshed, radiant, and confident in your skin, with a treatment plan that’s fully customized to you.

Each facial at KW Beauty is personalized to your skin’s needs at the time of treatment. From breakouts to dehydration or dullness, we adjust every step to target what your skin truly needs. The pricing below reflects base rates, with options to add on enhancements as needed. A skin assessment is always included to ensure the most effective treatment plan.

Please do not attend your appointment with clean, freshly washed hair. There is a potential to get skincare products in your hair that may require a wash afterwards. All facials safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Facials FAQs

  • Regular facials are an investment in a skin's long-term health and overall well-being.

    Commonly Asked Questions:

    • How often should men get facials? Men should get facials every 4–6 weeks to maintain healthy skin. However, the frequency depends on your skin type, concerns, and lifestyle. For example, men with acne-prone skin may need more frequent facials.

    • Can facials help with acne and breakouts? Yes, if men are getting regular facials, it will help with acne and breakouts on the face and back.

    • Can men’s facials help with signs of aging? Yes, some facials use anti-aging ingredients to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

    • Can facials help with razor burn and irritation? Yes, facials can soothe and hydrate the skin to reduce razor burn and irritation.

    • Can facials be suitable for men with beards? Yes, facials can be customized for men with beards.

    • What should I do after a facial? After a facial, you should maintain a skincare regimen that includes cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and using sunscreen.

Here are some reasons Men require facials too:

    • Skin Thickness: Men's skin is typically 25% thicker than women's, which means it can benefit from more intense treatments during facials.

    • Oil Production: Men tend to have higher oil production, which can lead to clogged pores and acne. Facials help regulate oil levels and prevent breakouts.

    • Shaving Irritation: Regular facials can reduce irritation caused by shaving, calming the skin and preventing ingrown hairs.

    • Aging Signs: Men's skin ages differently, often developing deeper wrinkles and more noticeable fine lines. Facials help combat these signs by boosting collagen production.

    • Improved Circulation: Facial massages improve blood circulation, which helps with oxygen delivery to the skin and promotes a healthy, glowing complexion.

  • What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a sterile and single use scalpel to gently remove the layer of dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.

    Who can have dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakouts and men with dense facial hair. If you have active acne, there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is an excellent treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

How is dermaplaning different than a peel?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. All of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment, and you will not peel or visibly shed skin after your service, while Peels can result in dramatic peeling in the days following service. Dermaplaning provides an excellent alternative to peels for those who desire professional grade exfoliation without the potential social downtime.

What should I expect from a treatment?

Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning followed by restorative treatment and finished with skincare suited to your unique skin. Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to close a shave, which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously.

    How long is the treatment?

    30 - 45 minutes.

What should I expect after treatment?

You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 40 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

How should I care for my skin after dermaplaning?

After a Dermaplaning treatment, your skin needs time to heal and restore. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days and wearing sunscreen every day.

Will my hair grow back thicker?

No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. As we remove the vellus hair, we are cutting it at the thickest part of the hair follicle so it may appear thicker or darker for a brief period of time. However, this perceived difference is cosmetic, and most clients do not notice.

Dermaplaning removes 21 days’ worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.

  • Why do I need facials?

A regular facial routine is more about skin health and maintenance than it is about luxury or pampering, although many do find it to be a relaxing, enjoyable experience.

Facial services help increase circulation and stimulate the skin. They can also help slow down premature aging and drastically improve conditions such as acne, redness and Rosacea. Facials are a great preventative treatment to help you beat wrinkles before they occur, and can also help you achieve lighter, brighter, younger-looking skin. In addition to healthier skin, many women and men enjoy regular facials to help minimize irritation, redness, ingrown hairs, and razor burn associated with shaving.

Why do I need a professional Medical Aesthetician?

For the same reason doctor and dentist check-ups are necessary: for better health! Skin is a living part of your body (your largest organ, in fact), that defends against environmental assaults and extreme temperatures. It helps eliminate toxins from the body, and it is continually renewing and protecting. To look and feel its best, your skin needs personal attention from a professional. KW Beauty features Medical Aestheticians, Lexie Sipes and Emma Walker who is trained to deliver professional skin treatments that will target your specific needs, and prescribe the products that will help maintain your optimum skin health at home in between facials.

What can I expect at my facial appointment?

Plan to arrive to your first appointment about 5 minutes early. You will need to fill out a form listing contact information, allergies and any medications that you are currently taking. Then we will evaluate your skin, ask you about your goals for your skin, and make a recommendation for skincare products and treatments to help you reach those goals.

What should I do to prepare for my facial?

Since most of our facials are designed to work on your skin from the décolleté up, you may want to plan on removing your makeup or pulling long hair back, although a head wrap will be used to protect your hair and a thorough cleanse will be done at the beginning of the facial. Men should be clean shaved unless bearded. Other than these few easy steps, simply be ready to relax and enjoy yourself in our private, comfortable room.

Will the facial hurt, or be uncomfortable?

You should never feel irritation, burning or discomfort during your facial. All of the products we use are created to be non-irritating, and we have been trained to use the best products for your skin type. If for some reason you should feel discomfort, please tell us immediately.

How soon will I start seeing results from my facial?

Some people see results immediately, and your skin should feel different right away. The skin feels, clean, smooth, hydrated, and reflects a new level of health that’s visibly noticeable. If the skin has more advanced long-term needs, such as treatment of skin aging, acne or hyper-pigmentation caused by hormonal fluctuations or sun damage, results may not be immediately visible; however, skin health will continue to improve as you follow my advice, and use a good home-care regimen.

What are the long-term benefits of getting regular facials?

Plain and simple: healthy skin! And healthy skin is better-looking skin. The products we use are designed to help keep skin at an optimal level of fitness – not just cover up with cosmetic results. In addition, when skin is at an optimal level of fitness, we can more effectively address issues that may arise from time to time, as your skin’s needs are constantly changing.

How can seasonal changes affect my skin?

Similar to the seasons, skin goes through its own fluctuations. Combine nature’s weather cycle with air conditioning and forced-air heating, and you have skin that’s constantly under assault. Cold winds and low temperatures can dry out skin, depriving it of balanced levels of oils, contributing to dryness, sensitivity and premature aging. Prolonged exposure to the sun causes water to evaporate from skin, which is why skin that has recently been burned or tanned requires more moisturizing than unexposed areas. Forced-air heating also dries out skin: warm, dry air acts like a sponge, soaking up moisture from everything it touches. To help skin stay healthy with the seasons, speak with me about modifying your skin care regimen accordingly. Chances are that with a few product updates, you can keep skin healthy year-round.

If I get a facial, do I have to use professional products at home?

No, but talk to us about what products you are using. Many products from drug stores or beauty counters contain ingredients that cause or contribute to skin issues such as dryness, oiliness, acne breakouts and redness.

How often should I get a facial?

Generally, facials are recommended once a month. However, we can discuss your specific needs, desired outcomes and schedule together

  • What areas can be treated?

Forma can be used on both the face and body. Commonly treated areas on the face include: crows feet, upper eyelids, lower eyelids, nasolabial folds, jowls, smile lines and neck.

    Will it hurt?

Forma is an essentially painless procedure with no downtime due to its precise technology and deep-layer targeting of the skin. Slight redness in the treatment area is common post-procedure, which subsides within a few hours.

    How many sessions are required?

It is recommended that weekly sessions are performed over a six-week period. Individuals with mild laxity may be treated in fewer sessions with more weeks between each treatment. Scheduling should be based on a medical pre-evaluation.

Can this treatment be combined with other treatments?

Yes, Forma can be used in combination with most other laser treatments, facials, injectables and/or filler. Please speak to your aesthetic provider when considering combining Forma with other treatments.
